CSUDH International Virtual Exchange Learning (IVEL)
International Virtual Exchange Learning (IVEL) creates space for faculty, staff, and students from different cultural backgrounds to connect and team up on academic and professional work while residing in other countries. IVEL allows faculty, staff, and students to engage in impactful cross-cultural experiences on a global scale. IVEL uses technology to bring innovative experiential collaboration, allowing institutions to work together at minimal cost while being accessible worldwide.
IVEL lends to campus internationalization and can include:
- Faculty and staff development worldwide.
- Global linkages across academia.
- Connections between students who may experience barriers to studying in another country.
IVEL offers several models of learning, including:
An IVEL model in which learners interact in parallel courses, using videoconferencing, email, and other electronic communication. | An IVEL model where faculty or students at two or more institutions share a research project. | An IVEL model in which speakers give virtual guest lectures or engage in global conversations. |

We seek to:
- Offer collaborative educational engagements that are opportunities for sustainable interdependent activities.
- Establish mutually beneficial partnership agreements.
- Provide enough resources to assist in the development and execution of program goals.
- Create innovative pedagogies that contribute to the academic vitality of CSUDH and our international partners.
Strategies
- Provide engagement opportunities that promote and advance global and cultural competencies, cross-cultural communication skills, and appreciation of diverse perspectives.
- Identify interested and qualified participating academic institutions to collaboratively develop programs that will enhance and advance quality global education.
- Secure grant resources to scale and accelerate the growth and expansion of the IVEL program.
- Develop promotional materials on the benefits of the IVEL program that can be shared and disseminated by participating institutions.
- Develop templates and toolkits for prospective partners to assess their capacities and readiness to engage in an IVEL collaboration.
- Engage students in the learning process led by faculty.
- Provide financial and human resources to support faculty engaged in IVEL.
- Develop international agreements that may include approved internship opportunities
- Collaborate on research and resource development.
